Adbusters magazine spearheaded the #Occupy Wallstreet and worldwide Occupy movement, including Occupy London Stock Exchange (LSX). The international Occupy groups are protesting against the banks and corporate greed bringing about the current global economic meltdown.
The banks were bailed out by the governments with taxpayers’ money, then severe cuts to public spending were made and taxes increased for the poor- while the corporations and super-rich dodge paying their taxes. Austerity measures ensued and continue, with the poor increasingly frustrated, the fabric of society slowly ripping apart.
The UK riots and looting seen as part of an inarticulate and violent backlash from a disaffected youth; the Occupy Movement aims to be the thinking person’s civil disobedience and fight for justice – a kind of ripple effect from the Arab Spring’s call for democracy.
Those in the ‘Western world’ are calling for true democracy and against punishing ordinary citizens – when it is the banks who caused this global recession. It’s estimated that 1% of the world’s population (the financial elite) own 40 % of the total world’s wealth. Intelligent and angry about being unable to build a decent living they have worked hard for, the common people are demanding change. The Occupy movement’s slogan is “We are the 99 %.”

How is it that just anybody can write a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything incredibly impressive –more like youve painted a pretty picture over an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here. But do you really think that you can get away with adding some pretty pictures and not really say anything?

Thanks. But the text also explains in a digestible soundbite the work of Craftivist Collective & Robin Hood Tax activists. The imagery is there for people to use their imagination and think about the meaning/connection.

You idiots don’t even have a consistant message…If it was not for Wal-Mart the vast majority of the “99%” wouldn’t be able to afford…well just about anything…do you even understand how Walmart’s business model works. Do you understand how many jobs these big box stores have created…once more your moronic ignorance shines through bright, but lets face it you useless excuses for humankind wouldn’t have a job during a good economy. (BTW I would usually be more civil, but why should I? I mean Im already a “hater” right?..oh yeah I hope another 1000 of you get some more pepper spray in the face tomorrow).

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your post seem to be running off the screen in Opera. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The design and style look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon. Kudos
